Personal Comments:

I have worked for many years in the Visual Media industry doing a great range of  tasks; from painted backdrops when I started, to set design, art direction and VFX in different projects. My focus has been Concept Design overall, I want to enhance my experience and keep growing as an Artist. Studying at Vancouver Film School in the VFX course and then at Langara College I have increased my skills. I also do Life drawing, Photography, Wood carving and drumming as hobbies, I like to keep myself busy.

I consider myself a creative and self-starter person, easy to work with.

Specialties: Concept design, architectural design, Character design, creative process, Digital Compositing, Hand Drawing.

Short Bio

I was born in Mexico city and became a Canadian citizen in 2012,  I have been living in Vancouver since 2009. I started working in the movie industry back in Mexico when I was 17 years old, my first assignment was a painted backdrop for a TV spot, it was a simple cloud scape but it was my first paid project, and I was very excited knowing that my painting and drawing skills could earn myself some money.

My next step was to further pursue this skills that would bring me pay-checks and satisfaction 100%, or so I thought, but reality is very different than my dreams and goals, I have been very persistent and realized that my vision can be very different from what I expected compared to real life, but nevertheless I wasn't going to quit, so I studied Architecture and Graphic design, back then Computer Graphics were not in sight yet , so my natural response was to get into the arts by the known venues in the 80's and 90's,  drawing and painting  was another skill I pursued and did it for the sake  of passion, I was self taught and took me decades to finesse my paint and drawing skills; I was doing a parallel career in Architecture, but I didn't quite liked it specially in the field and I was getting away from my main goal which was art for films, so I was very lucky to get my foot on the door when my father started working in the film industry as a Camera operator and later he became a producer for TV spots and short films, then I was given the opportunity and started doing some art for TV and later on for films, I was doing graphics, set design and building sets as a  career, and so I began my journey in the movies and TV, doing all kind of different projects which at that time were done the "old School" way.

I reached a plateau in my career in the 2000's when all this computer graphics had emerged and I was very interested in developing my computer skills, so I bought my first computer, and began learning on my own, for tutorials and books about C.G. and Visual effects for film and TV were almost non existing, I had to read tons of manuals and slowly grow. After 10 years (in my 30's) I started my own advertising agency in which I achieved a great deal of experience and "know how" in the "real world" developing my career even further, but I still wasn't satisfied so I made up my mind to leave my country and came to Canada to study Visual Effects properly along with Classical Drawing and Story Telling in Vancouver Film School and Langara College,  as I was working in the Industry here in Canada I realized that something was missing and it was the fact that I wasn't doing "Art" per say, so I started a career change focusing only in Art for  the Film industry, which lead me to where I am now, becoming a Concept Designer and Digital painter using the best of both worlds, traditional and digital tools, my drawing and painting skills are such a paramount foundation that helped me achieve my personal goal as an Artist.

The journey isn't finished and I am still moving forward pursuing my artistic goal with all the up and down along the way by growing and learning .

I in the almost 30 years of doing this, being persistent and determined are key ingredients to succeed in this every day more crowded world, if you want to keep at it you have to adapt and update yourself in the modern world, learn, learn and then learn some more every chance you have.

I have worked almost 4 years at Langara College as an instructor of creative arts applied for Films and TV using traditional and digital media, taking advantage of today's technology and also teaching Art Direction for Film and TV based on  knowledge and personal experience.
